Double Reed Day Recital

Our next event is our Double reed day which takes place on Sunday 5th February 2017 Anyone is welcome to come and just watch, listen and learn.

  • Adult: £15
  • Senior citizen: £10
  • Under 18: £5 (accompanied adult free)

The day includes a recital from members of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra Wind section:

The double reed day programme includes:

  • BSO tutors recital 10.20am-11am.
  • Masterclasses
  • Ensembles workshops
  • Advice
  • Orchestra excerpt class
  • Taster sessions for those who would like to begin to learn bassoon or oboe.

Entrance includes access as audience to all of the above (Masterclass places are now sold out, although there is still space for ensembles which can be booked via the double reed page)

Double reed day: limited places remaining

Although the masterclass is now sold out it’s not too late to sign up to take part in an ensemble or to try an instrument.

You don’t need to be a player already, if you are interested in trying out an unusual instrument, then here is your chance! Come along to the Dorset Double Reed Day to experience oboes and bassoons on Sunday 5th February at the Kinson Community Centre.

Double reed specialists, John Packer, will also be in attendance for all your double reed requirements.
Purchase a first instrument or accessories for players of all standards.

Registration starts at 10am, then at 10:20 you will have a chance to hear these wonderful instruments in action, in our tutors’ concert. All four tutors are members of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.

Try an Oboe or a Bassoon

If you are interested in trying out an unusual instrument, then here is your chance! Come along to the Dorset Double Reed Day on Sunday 5th February, 10-4:30 at the Kinson Community Centre.

You will have a chance to hear these wonderful instruments in action in a concert given by the tutors. All four tutors are members of the world-famous Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.

Jean Broadbent, the Double Reed specialist from John Packer Ltd will be on hand all day with oboes and bassoons for you to try. You are welcome to drop in and listen to the masterclasses and workshops that will be going on too.

image001We recommend that children starting the oboe should be year 3 and up, and children starting the bassoon should be year 5 and up. We can provide information on finding a teacher, hiring or purchasing an instrument and sources of funding available.

Entry is £5 for under 18s, an accompanying adult can go free. Payment can be made on the day, but please register your interest to attend here just to give us a rough idea of numbers!

Join us: Vocal Workshop

Saturday 29th April, afternoon
Broadstone United Reformed Church, BH18 9AB

Join us for a classical voice masterclass with two of Dorset’s finest young singers. James and Isabelle have been performing in Poole and around the UK for many years. Regular Broadstone Music Series concert-goers will recognise them from their acclaimed appearances over the last 2 years in our many operas and concerts.

The afternoon will include masterclasses and an ensemble workshop. The day will finish with a final performance including a performance from both Isabelle and James Atkinson.

Expect to be challenged, improved and a lot of fun!!!

Baroque Coffee House

A Celebration of the Baroque Era
Sunday 19th February, 3 – 5pm
Broadstone Methodist Church hall

Following the success of the 2016 event, The Baroque Coffee House returns offering a varied programme of beautifully performed Baroque repertoire to be enjoyed with afternoon coffee, tea, and locally made cakes.

Performed by a diverse collective of talented young local musicians, supported by professional musicians and tutors, the event aims to emulate the atmosphere of the old English coffee shops, a place in the 17th and 18th centuries where people would meet for conversation, commerce, music, and caffeine.

Baroque opera comes to Broadstone

Hurn Court Opera comes to Broadstone; presenting Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas

Building on the success of the 2015 Mozart “Magic Flute” performance and the gala concert in July 2016, Broadstone Music Series will collaborate once again with young singers from London conservatoires at this annual charity fundraiser.

Dear Friends, Music Therapy Supporters and Broadstone Music Series Supporters

We would like to invite you to a special charity afternoon, given by Hurn Court Opera, to raise funds for our music therapy charity which provides music therapy for young children at the Child Development Centre at Poole Hospital.

The afternoon will commence at 4 pm with tea/coffee/cake (included) in the church grounds(weather permitting) or in the church hall, and a performance of Bach Brandenburg Concerto No 3.

At 5 pm we charge our glasses and take our seats in the church for our opera performance of Dido and Anaeus.

The church grounds are spacious and you are also welcome to bring a picnic.
