Talented young musicians will perform alongside professionals in one of our most popular annual events. Enjoy a variety of exceptional solo and chamber music performances while you sample tea, fresh coffee, and a selection of delicious cakes!

The programme will include highlights from our 2017 Summer School including music by Mozart, Schubert and more.

Regular BMS visiting artists ‘Fieri Consort’ crowdfunding for exciting new album.

You may have seen our recent post about regular visiting artists, the Fieri Consort, releasing their debut album Tears of a Lover, which was launched a couple of weeks ago.

The Fieri Consort are currently fundraising for their next album which promises to be quite a follow up to this initial offering. The album will revolve around the Musica Transalpina, a set of madrigals which were collected in Italy and ‘brought across the alps ‘ to London where they influenced many of the great musicians and composers of the time.

The Project is being match funded by a generous donor so every penny counts double! If you were to donate £100 it could be worth up to £225 to Fieri.

Fieri Consort Album Launch

If you were lucky enough to hear the amazing Fieri Consort when they performed at the Broadstone Music Series you may be interested in their new album – ‘Tears of a Lover’ which was launched at a stunning concert in London last night.

And if you missed them, this is your chance to get acquainted. The album, produced by the one and only John Rutter, is stunning and you cannot fail to be impressed by their sound and musicianship.

The disk explores the music of Monteverdi and other works from the era plus several works which are inspired by him.

We hope that they will visit us again in the not too distant future.

Congratulations beautiful singers; you must be delighted.

Workshop: Endangered species instruments – Viola, Bassoon & Oboe

Elizabeth: Double reed day feedback

I just wanted to thank you and all the team for all the hard work you all put in to make it such an enjoyable day. Holly and Bryony were particularly patient and encouraging to me as a beginner and I really enjoyed the ‘how to practice’ session and the ensemble playing, as well of course as the wonderful initial recital.

Thank you to all and I would be very keen to come next year if you organise another one. Hopefully my playing will be more tuneful by then.

Joe: Double reed day feedback

My Son had a fantastic day, thank you so much for arranging it all. Yes he would love to attend future events. It is fantastic for [me] to get to play with other bassoonists and he loved talking to another bassoonist who is at music college as that is what he wants to do when he finishes school (still over 4 years away yet though).
His younger brother asks please could clarinets be involved so he can join in too 😁

From a spectator point of view it was a fab day and the end concert was fab! I am still humming the sun has got his hat on heehee.

I look forward to seeing the pics and thank you for adding us to your mailing list.

Tricia: Double reed day feedback

I just wanted to drop you a line to say how much I enjoyed the double
reed day on Sunday. It was good to meet up with so many other
double-reeders and there was a lovely atmosphere.

Thank you for all your hard work. I will definitely come again if and
when you do another one!

Poppy: Double reed day feedback

The day started of with an amazing tutors concert, with a good range of pieces on both bassoon and oboe. Then I went into the ‘how to practice’ workshop where I learnt lots of interesting things about warm ups and breathing. After that I played in my masterclass and Ed Kay taught me a lot of things about tonguing which I found very helpful. What was very nice was that Ed was very respectful of what my teacher had already told me and offered lots of ideas and alternatives for me to try out.

Then I had my lunch and went to the park which was right next to the Centre, I especially liked the zip wire and although it was cold It was a great way to recharge my batteries ready for the afternoon sessions!.

After lunch I took part in a trio which was a lot of fun. We had a go at a piece by Boismorttier, which I really liked because I am familiar with the composer through my recorder studies. After a quick break I joined in the orchestral extracts class and found it exciting to play lots of different snippets from orchestral pieces. I really enjoy sight reading and it was great to be in a class where everyone was enjoying the same experience. After that I played in the informal concert in my trio and then just before it was time to leave, I played in a mass ensemble.

It was an amazing day that I thoroughly enjoyed. Although I was one of the youngest members, I really felt included and valued and I got to take part in all of the things that I wanted to. I cant wait until the next Double Reed Day!
