New and exciting partnerships and music education opportunities – Autumn, 2022.

Whilst it only seems a short while since we had our summer school the new term is rolling around again and whilst thoughts of school and all that it brings are doubtless on everyone’s mind we are also wishing to let you know about some fantastic education opportunities for local young student musicians, brought to you by Poole Society for Young Musicians. Application process and expressions of interest are open now – form can be found HERE

We are delighted to have a formal partnership with the Royal Academy of Music and their Advanced Specialist Strings Ensemble Training (ASSET) award quartet and support from the Albert and Eugenie Frost Trust, which allows us to access to some very special undergraduate musicians and financial support for some of the educational programme that has been put together.

We will also be once again working with hub partner Soundstorm Music Education Agency who will be supporting some of these activities.

We very fortunate to be able to have these opportunities and we hope that as many young people as possible will take them up to add further skill and dimension to their playing and music understanding. It is also a wonderful opportunity for them to mix and make friends with other like-minded students.

With summer holidays to plan we were very conscious of getting the dates out early so that as many young people as possible can be involved. Basically Bach Project applications to participate now open.

Applications for our exciting Bach Project are now open and full details and the application form can be found on our webpage. Deadline for application to Phase A Autumn series (A) BRANDENBURG 1 & 3, Sept 1st & Oct 6th 2019 ) is coming up on the 21st August and spaces are limited.

Summer School: Quartet-in-residence appointed.

The Halcyon string quartet from Royal Academy of Music London are going to be our resident string quartet at Broadstone Music Series Summer School 26th -28th July this year.
Apart from the quartet tutoring on the course, our young string players will be able to play alongside them and listen to them perform. Nathalie Green-Buckley, the violist is an ex Dorset girl who studied music at Cambridge and has regularly appeared in the Broadstone Music Series.  We are excited to be able to have them at the summer school which will give a whole new dynamic to the tutoring this year.  It will be a great experience for the young quartet too, we know they are just as delighted to be with us as we are looking forward to having them.

There are still a few spaces on the Summer School 2017 if you are quick.

Music Summer School 28th – 30th July in association with Soundstorm

An exciting opportunity for young students of music this summer holidays.  Over 40 children are registered to participate in our first summer school.

These three days will be principally to train  young musicians in chamber music and will be taken by guest BSO tutors. We are also including general musicianship at an advanced level, and intensive theory classes for those who would like it alongside aural test classes which will be taken by an ABRSM examiner. Tips will also given on how to achieve the best marks! A fun non musical activity will also take place each day.  It’s also a great chance for kids to build a network of musician friends too, we know that some of those we made through music as youngsters are still huge friends of ours today.

Timetables have been written and the children will be put into small groups according to ability, it’s all organised for the children to ensure that they are given ability appropriate tuition and get the most out of the days.

BSO tutors will also take some Masterclasses for more advanced levels.  The BSO tutors are very experienced musical educators so it will be a wonderful opportunity for young players to improve their technical ability and musicianship.

We are delighted to be working in association with SoundStorm for this, our first,  Music Summer School.  We gratefully acknowledge their support and guidance in helping us set up this event.  They do some great musical education for young people.
