Members of Idomeneo String Quartet, joined by BSO musician friends – Sunday 7th April 2019 4pm

We are delighted to welcome 2018 Wigmore Hall String Quartet Competition competitors to Broadstone for their first appearance in the Broadstone Music Series. Find out more about this fabulous string quartet ahead of the concert.

Due to unforseen circumstances, the original programme has had to change. Mark Derudder and Miguel Angel Rodriguez Olivera will be joined by guest principal musicians from Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. Alongside Jesper Svedberg, Auriol Evans, Tom Beer and Joan Martinez, and they will present a special programme for us. The group have performed chamber music together to much acclaim, so we welcome them to Broadstone this spring!

Brahms Sextet no 1 in B flat major.

This recital is a pre-performance to Idomeneo’s residency in the Benjamin Britten Festival which begins on 8th April.

As ever, musical education is a key part of this programme and six local, young musicians are receiving coaching on the Brahms sextet for a future performance.

Something new for Broadstone Music – Concert and Dining experience!
We are pleased to announce that we have paired up with The Cargo Lounge in Broadstone (situated just across the road from St John’s Church)  to offer a post-concert dining experience. This will be served just after 6pm on Sunday 7th April, straight after the Idomeneo and Friends concert where there will be an opportunity to meet the musicians too.
This wonderful restaurant have agreed to prepare a special roast dinner especially for just 20 members of our audience at a special rate for us, and the menu choices are below.

We recommend booking as early as possible to avoid disappointment!

The piano can be a lonely instrument, so come and learn new skills while making new friends, and exploring piano duets and trio repertoire! Music will be available in advance to prepare.

Also, if you have an exam looming, there’ll be lots of useful extra advice to hand with the option of a performing platform!

Led by distinguished concert pianist Béla Hartman alongside his wife Julia, this exciting and fun day will be inspiring with a enormous piano skills and musical enrichment for all involved. Parents are welcome to hear the informal performance at the end of the day!

Classics By Candlelight & the Great American Songbook at Christmas – 21st December 2018

Friday 21st December 2018, 7:30pm with informal pre concert performances from 7pm by younger musicians!

Broadstone Music Series orchestra, comprising of local professional musicians alongside senior young musicians, are joined by Sam Jewison who revisits us for our Christmas concert due to popular demand! He will direct more of his own arrangements from the popular Great American Songbook!
Award winning Sam studied at Trinity Laban Conservatoire and described as an “MD professional beyond his years”.

Classics By Candlelight & the Great American Songbook at Christmas – 21st December 2018

First half of the concert includes local Lydia Bennett, N.Y.O. bassoonist & principal of W.Y.O who will perform a movement from Mozart bassoon concerto with orchestra.

Olivia Carstairs, local young soprano, currently studying at Royal College of Music London will sing “How Beautiful are Thy Feet” from Handel’s Messiah.

Lewis Lee and Sally Aiko Dando, who are current leader and co-leader of W.Y.O will perform Handel’s concerto grossi no 1 opus 6 with string orchestra.

The strings will perform the beautiful “The Holy Boy” by Ireland.

This concert will provide everyone with a magical Christmas atmosphere, with more surprise music treats in store!

If you have a score of Messiah, bring it with you for an impromptu informal performance of Handel’s Hallelujah chorus! Members from “Cantabile” will be joining us for this and will perform the well known and beautiful Harold Dark’s music arangement of Rossetti’s poem “In the Bleak Midwinter” with orchestra.

Ensemble Solaire from the Royal College of Music – 7th October 2018, 4pm

We are delighted to announce that Royal Over-Seas, Elias Fawcett, Prize winners 2018, Ensemble Solaire, will be opening our next season of concerts with music by Barber, Ravel and Hindemith. The group were described as “Exceptional” by EMI producer, Stephen Johns and they have recently performed Ligeti’s Ten pieces in South Bank’s Prestigious Queen Elizabeth Hall.

The group is made up of five world renowned players in their own right, including Polly Bartlett who regular BMS concert goers will remember has appeared in the series on several occasions before following her BBC young musician successes. Within Ensemble Solaire, Polly is joined by equally illustrious musicians, Renate Sokolovska – flute, Jorge Ripoll – clarinet, Matthew Horn, – French Horn and Juston Sun – Bassoon.

Workshop Opportunity for Singers, Guitar players or Harpists.

An exciting opportunity exists to participate in workshops associated with the upcoming performance of Fieri Consort in the Broadstone Music Series.

Vocal Workshop: If you can read music, love to sing and would like to expand your vocal skills then this workshop is definitely one for you. Join Hannah Ely and Lucy Cox .

Baroque Guitar Workshop:  Competent guitar players try your hand at something new or improve your Baroque style, with Toby Carr.

Baroque Harp Workshop:    With Aileen Henry. An exciting and unusual chance to explore the uniqueness of the baroque harp style and improve your playing techniques.

Fee for these workshops are £20 includes a ticket to the concert in the evening.  There are five discounted spaces available for under 18s, with thanks to Soundstorm for their support.

Time: 2:30 – 4:30pm 26th May 2018.  Minimum age for this workshop is 13. You must be able to read music. Instrumentalists should be Grade 5+

String Orchestra Day 13th April 2018

STRING ORCHESTRA DAY with visiting Italian violinist and conductor ROBERTO FANTINEL – in conjunction with Soundstorm Music Development Agency

We have a very exciting workshop coming up.  We have invited Roberto Fantinel to coach some young local string musician students. This is an incredible opportunity for them with this renowned Italian conductor, he has an amazing bio, some of which we have shared below.

Roberto Fantinel studied and achieved his diploma in violin at the conservatoire “A. Steffani” in Castelfranco Veneto under the guidance of M° Michele Lot. While attended many advanced courses on chamber music and conducting with artists like G. Guglielmo, S. Pagliani, Leon Spirer, Alexander Janiczek, Umberto Benedetti Michelangeli and Bruno Mezzena, he attended the classes organized by “I pomeriggi milanesi” orchestra, which were held by the conductors M° Gilberto Serembe and M° Aldo Ceccato.
Award winning Roberto is the main representative and the conductor of the “SiO” orchestra since 2011, the “SiO” orchestra, is made up of young musicians from 11 to 19, this organisation developed from a project called “Suono in Orchestra” which was created into the middle school “Barozzi“ in San Fior which allowed young members of the orchestra take part of important events such as a concert at Teatro Sistina in Rome for the semester of the Italian presidency among the European Community; a concert at the opening of the EXPO in Milan of 2015; the participation at the tv programme TU SI QUE VALES, which got more than 200.000 views on Facebook; a concert at the Senate of the Italian Republic in front of the President and live on RAI1 in 2016.  Since 2017, Roberto has been the institutional contact person in Veneto for “Il Sistema dei Cori e delle Orchestre giovanili” of Italy, connected with the project “El Sistema“ created by Josè Antonio Abreu in Venezuela.
