An exciting opportunity for young students of music this summer holidays.
Broadstone Music Series are launching their first Summer Music school due to popular demand from previous highly successful workshop days. These three days will be principally to train young musicians in chamber music and will be taken by guest BSO tutors. We are also including general musicianship at an advanced level, and intensive theory classes for those who would like it alongside aural test classes which will be taken by an ABRSM examiner. Tips will also given on how to achieve the best marks! A fun non musical activity will also take place each day. It’s also a great chance for kids to build a network of musician friends too, we know that some of those we made through music as youngsters are still huge friends of ours today.
Children will be put into small groups according to ability, individual schedules will be organised for the children to ensure that they are given ability appropriate tuition.
BSO tutors will also take some Masterclasses for more advanced levels. The BSO tutors are very experienced musical educators so it will be a wonderful opportunity for young players to improve their technical ability and musicianship.
For those who would find it financially too difficult to participate, assistance may be available. If this affects you please contact “Sound Storm” directly.

Oh what a night our performance turned out to be. We knew it would be good, but it just blossomed into something quite amazing. We had some fantastic feedback from the audience and our young soloists were wonderful and they had a great experience working with Lynton Atkinson. Here are some pictures (thank you Nigel Apperley) from the evening. If you came along, we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.
On Tuesday 7th April, we are holding an informal and rare type of event at URC Broadstone from 4.30 until approximately 6pm. Around 10 current Music undergraduates will be available to talk informally about their Music degrees etc.. and answer questions to those who are considering taking a single or joint honours Music degree of some type, at University or Music College.
It is open to any age and will hopefully be useful in order to find out about the different degrees available. It would be useful to know in advance who would like to attend, so please contact Alison Kay on:ali.kay@talktalk.net
Venue:
United Reformed Church, 1 Higher Blandford Road, Dorset BH18 9AB
The Magic Flute presentation is coming along nicely. We have been recruiting our community choir and orchestra and we are delighted to announce that Broadstone based business, Vocalzone, who produce throat pastilles, have come on board to support this event. Their origin is really interesting so please have a look at their website to see how they came into being. They are perfect for singers, teachers and anyone who uses their voice a lot. We are very grateful for their sponsorship and look forward to welcoming them to our event.

We are organising our next lot of half term music workshops which will take place at St Nicholas Church, Corfe Mullen on Wednesday 18th February 2015. This time we will be hosting junior and advanced string groups and a grade 5+ brass group.
The youngsters will be coached by highly experienced professional visiting music tutors from the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra to improve their play and ensemble playing, a rare opportunity for some and so important to their musicianship. At the end of the day, they will be able to come together with other participants to show what they’ve learned; friends and family welcome.
This is a really great opportunity for them, which should be grasped both hands. We had some great feedback from our previous workshops and already have a number of students confirmed. Places are limited and demand is expected to be high. This opportunity is greatly subsidised by the fundraising activities of the Broadstone Music Series and is available for just £15, Junior String Group £10.
An application form for the workshop is available download here. Please read the playing standards required for participation in each group. Exact start times for various instrument workshops will be confirmed shortly.
Well we thought we’d start the 2015 Broadstone Music Series with something a little different, a step back to the the roaring ‘twenties’ and the age of jazz and the era of the silent movies.
Musicians talented enough to provide an on the fly improvised soundtrack to the great movies of the silent era are few and far between, but we are delighted to welcome back, a man that is eminently capable, to the Broadstone Music Series, Sam Hanson who will be taking on Charlie Chaplin’s classic “The Gold Rush”.
Join us for a great evening starting with a little cocktail on arrival, with the music of young local Jazz Quintet, Project F, some popcorn and candy floss followed by showing of the film with Sam providing the exciting, dynamic backing track on the organ.
TicketsFor the Live Performance: £8 and £3 (students) includes cocktail on arrival and film nibbles. Tickets may be obtained from Hintons, Broadstone or on the door. For further information or to reserve tickets call 01202 695773.
