We’re delighted to welcome the acclaimed Sonas String Quartet from London’s prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama, performing as part of our 2025–26 Broadstone Music Series.
This performance marks the second recital in our Power of the String Quartet cycle this season, exploring how music communicates profound emotional landscapes — from intimate introspection to collective celebration — through the unique voice of the string quartet.
In this evocative programme, the Sonas Quartet will guide us through a diverse musical journey:
- Shostakovich’s String Quartet No. 7: A stark, haunting work that reflects deep personal turmoil and introspection.
- Debussy’s String Quartet: A rich tapestry of tension, lyricism, and impressionistic beauty.
- Classical Music excerpts performed by some of our own Youth Camerata members including movements from Haydn op 1 no 6 string quartet
As part of our commitment to nurturing young talent, the Sonas Quartet will lead an educational workshop with members of the Poole Society for Young Musicians. These emerging chamber musicians will join the recital for a special appearance.

Sonas Quartet
Formed in 2022 at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, the Sonas Quartet has quickly established itself as a dynamic and accomplished ensemble under the mentorship of Gary Pomeroy of the Heath Quartet. The 2024/2025 season marked an exciting chapter for the quartet as they joined the Hans Keller Chamber Studio and the Britten Pears Programme. Upcoming events include a masterclass with Johannes Meisler, Mendelssohn Octet performance with the Motus Quartet and Mozart Clarinet Quintet Concert with Nick Carpenter. In 2023, the quartet won first prize in the prestigious St James’ Chamber Prize at the Guildhall School, which led to a performance in Southwark Cathedral in May 2024. That same year, the Quartet was invited to participate in the ‘Sounds of Change’ EU course in Germany, where they had masterclasses with renowned musicians such as Kirill Troussov and Philippe Graffin. Following this, they were invited to perform a series of concerts in Portugal in October 2024. The quartet performs regularly both in the UK and internationally and have made appearances at festivals such as the Southwell Music Festival, Festival Internacional de Música, Cistermúsica, International Music Festival Koblenz, and the City of London Festival of Music. They have also had the privilege of collaborating with esteemed musicians, including pianist Anna Fedorova and oboist Philippe Tondre. They have received guidance from distinguished chamber musicians including Alasdair Tait, David Waterman, Garfield Jackson, Donald Grant, John Myerscough, Simon-Rowland Jones, as well as the Takács Quartet, Jerusalem Quartet, and Confluence Quartet. The 2025/2026 season will include some exciting performances in Portugal, as well as with the Poole Society for Young Musicians/Broadstone Music Series.
